MONETA — The Tri-County Lakes Administrative Commission is taking the next step in its effort to slow the encroachment of sedimentation into Smith Mountain Lake. The board approved a feasibility study Monday to consider the best ways to manage the growing concern.
The consulting firm EnviroScience was chosen in a unanimous vote to conduct the phase one of a study that will include establishing a watershed baseline, identifying sediment hotspots, quantifying sediment and pursing grant funding for future phases. Funds for the $25,000 study will come from TLAC's sedimentation project budget with future phases coming from outside sources such as grants.
